A few years ago, in an article published in theJournal of the American Medical Association, researchers reported that more than 200,000 people in the UK had taken generic versions of Viagra, the active ingredient in the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra. The men who took generic versions of Viagra also reported feeling nervous, like a "very nervous" individual, because "they had this very strong sense of impending doom," said Dr. "These men are very scared and worried, and if I took Viagra, they would feel very nervous."
Dr. Wood and his colleagues wrote an editorial in theNew England Journal of Medicine(JAMA) in June 2017 in which they said it was "important to understand that the risk of serious health problems from taking erectile dysfunction drugs is quite high and that the benefits are very low." They added that a recent report of a study by the National Institutes of Health found that, while the risk was "very small," that men taking erectile dysfunction drugs experienced "significant, even greater risks."
In their editorial, Wood and his colleagues wrote that they found that "the drugs were safe to use and effective for some men." But the drug can be quite dangerous to some men, and the side effects of Viagra are quite serious."
